How to Use the GreenShield+ Therapist Directory: Step-by-Step Guide

Finding the right therapist can feel overwhelming, especially when you don’t know where to start. The GreenShield+ therapist directory makes it easy to search, compare, and connect with a licensed Canadian therapist who fits your needs.

Whether you already know what you’re looking for or need guidance narrowing things down, the directory offers three ways to find your match. Here’s how to get started.

  • A payment method to book your first session.  (For individual therapy, we offer free 15-minute consultations if you’d like to meet your therapist before booking a session.)

How to find a therapist online using GreenShield+

Our platform, GreenShield+, gives you three ways to connect with a therapist. You can take the matching questionnaire for a personalized recommendation, browse the directory using filters, or book the next available appointment. Each option leads to the same network of 2,500+ licensed therapists.

Step 1: Create your free GreenShield+ account

Visit greenshieldplus.ca and sign up. You’ll need a valid email address and will be asked to share a few basic details. Creating an account is free, and there’s no obligation to book right away.

Step 2: Choose how you want to search

Once you’re in, navigate to Counselling. You’ll see three options:

  • Take the matching questionnaire to answer questions about your symptoms, stressors, language preferences, cultural values, and more. The algorithm uses your answers to generate a shortlist of therapists best suited to your needs.
  • Browse the directory to search and filter by specialization, language, availability, and other criteria.
  • Book the next available appointment if you’d rather skip the questionnaire and get started as soon as possible.

Step 3: Review therapist profiles

Each therapist profile includes their credentials, areas of focus, spoken languages, and approach to care. You can take all the time you need to find someone who feels like a good fit. Or, if you’d prefer to talk to a therapist quickly, you can skip the full matching process and simply book a session with the first available therapist for support when you want it.

Step 4: Book your free 15-minute consultation

Once you’ve found a therapist you like, you have the option of booking a free 15-minute individual therapy consultation by video or voice. This gives you a chance to ask questions, get a feel for the therapist’s style, and decide if they’re the right fit before committing to your first session.

Step 5: Schedule your full session

If the consultation goes well, book your first session. Sessions are virtual (by video or phone) and offer flexible scheduling, including evenings and weekends. Most people connect with a therapist within 24 to 72 hours of starting their search.
