COVID-19 : A message from GSC's President and CEO, Zahid Salman

It has been an unprecedented and challenging few weeks for all of us and each day brings even more major events and announcements, sometimes by the hour. Given this uncertain environment, I wanted to reach out directly to Green Shield Canada plan members, clients and stakeholders.

We have already been in touch on our initial efforts to safely manage our GSC team and meet our obligations to you. We have urged anyone looking for information to connect to our online Support Centre through our Plan Member Online Services portal and/or Corporate website. It is being updated daily with the latest COVID-19 related information pertinent to plan members and broader health benefits and health system stakeholders.

Like most organizations, we have been very focused on the health and wellbeing of our tremendous group of employees who serve our clients. In this regard, we are listening to, and working with Canadian governments on appropriate actions. That means we have been halting business travel, ensuring continuity of compensation for those in self-isolation, and steadily moving our workforce to home over the past week as our contribution to slow, and eventually eliminate the spread of the virus.

Please be assured that we are sensitive to the role we play in ensuring Canadians have access to the medications, products and services they need to manage their health on a daily basis, let alone in a health crisis of this magnitude. We hope that our focus on maintaining the support you are accustomed to will play a modest part in giving you some added calm in trying times.

Our team is committed to providing regular updates to you on our efforts and any changes in the environment that could impact the health benefits experience.

On a more personal note, I ask that you please be vigilant and take care of yourselves, your families and friends, and those who work in our healthcare system who will face incredibly trying times in the weeks to come.
