Here’s what you need to know about your GreenShield Insurance student health and dental plan.
Opt-out Info
Have alternate equivalent coverage and want to opt out of your student health and dental plan? Requests can be made for a limited time only. Certain restrictions may apply. Click the link below for more information.
Opt-in Info
Want to add a spouse or dependent child(ren) to your student health and dental plan? Contact your student association or click the link below.
Inactive Period
You may be in a temporary inactive period while GreenShield collects and updates your enrolment information. Don’t worry – you can still submit paper claims. We will process your claims once your information is updated.
Once the enrolment is complete and the in-active period ends, you can sign up for online services at greenshield.ca/student. Our online member portal provides quick and easy access to:
- Online claim submission
- Your benefit booklet
- Search for a benefit provider
- Search drugs by DIN to check eligibility
- And much more!
Once the inactive period ends, you can even submit claims right from your mobile device. Just download GreenShield+. Could it get any easier?
Remember, your GS ID number is your three-letter school code, your student number and “-00” (example: GSA111222333-00).
Here’s a Look at Some of What Your Plan Covers
Your student health and dental plan ensures you can take care of your health and well-being during your post-secondary studies by offering a wide range of benefits. Take a look at the Schedule of Benefits for the details.
Schedule of Benefits – Effective September 1, 2024
Prescription Drugs (Pay Direct Drug Card)
- 20% co-pay.
- $2,000 maximum per benefit year, including HPV vaccines.
Contraceptives
- Oral Contraceptives 10% co-pay, injections, IUD’s and patch 20% co-pay per prescription: $350 maximum per benefit year included in the $2,000 Prescription Drug maximum.
All Other Vaccines
- 50% co-pay.
HEALTH BENEFIT PLAN
Health Benefits
- $5,000 per covered person per benefit, excluding Gender Affirmation.
Hospital
- Public general hospital or convalescent or rehabilitation hospital or public chronic hospital, semi-private room: 50% co-pay. Up to 5 days per disability.
Medical Items and Services
- Gender affirmation (diagnosis of gender dysphoria from a physician (M.D.) or nurse practitioner is required): Reasonable and customary charges, limited to $10,000 lifetime.
- Braces and casts: 50% co-pay, $500 per benefit year combined.
- Compression Stockings: 50% co-pay, $500 per benefit year.
- Emergency Transportation: $250 per benefit year.
- Private Duty Nursing in the Home: Minimum 8 hours per shift RN and RPN.

Professional Services
- Chiropractor, Registered Massage Therapist, Naturopath, Speech Therapist, Physiotherapist: $50 per visit, limited to $500 per practitioner per benefit year.
- Psychologist, Psychotherapist, Social Worker/Counsellor, or Master of Social Work: $80 per visit, limited to $1,000 per benefit year combined.
- Holistic Nutritional Consultant: included in the overall combined maximum of $80 per visit limited to $1,000 per benefit year for Psychologist, Psychotherapist, Social Worker/Counsellor and Master of Social Work.
Accidental Dental
- No co-pay.
- Reasonable and customary charges.
Vision
- Prescription eye glasses or contact lenses: $150 every 2 years.
- Optometric eye exams: $75 for one eye exam every 2 years.
DENTAL BENEFIT PLAN
Fee Guide
- The current less one-year Provincial Dental Association Fee Guide for General Practitioners in the province where services are rendered.
Maximum Per Benefit Year Combined for All Benefits
- $1,000.
Basic Diagnostic and Preventive Services, Periodontal Scaling And Basic Oral Surgery
- No co-pay.
Basic Restorative Services, Comprehensive Oral Surgery and Anesthesia
- 25% co-pay.
Endodontic Services
- 70% co-pay.
Major Services
- 70% co-pay.
