Here’s what you need to know about your GreenShield Insurance student health and dental plan.

Opt-out Info

Inactive Period

You may be in a temporary inactive period while GreenShield collects and updates your enrolment information. Don’t worry – you can still submit paper claims. We will process your claims once your information is updated.

Once the enrolment is complete and the inactive period ends, you can sign up for online services at greenshield.ca/student. Our online member portal provides quick and easy access to:

  • Online claim submission
  • Your benefit booklet
  • Search for a benefit provider
  • Search drugs by DIN to check eligibility
  • And much more!

Once the inactive period ends, you can even submit claims right from your mobile device. Just download GreenShield+. Could it get any easier?

Remember, your GS ID number is your three-letter school code, your student number and “-00” (example: WGS111222333-00).

Here’s a Look at Some of What Your Plan Covers

Your student health and dental plan ensures you can take care of your health and well-being during your post-secondary studies by offering a wide range of benefits. Take a look the Schedule of Benefits for the details.

Schedule of Benefits – Effective September 1, 2024

HEALTH BENEFIT PLAN

Prescription Drugs

  • 20% co-pay per prescription.
  • $2,300 every 16 months based on date of first paid claim, including HPV vaccines.

Hearing Care

  • 20% co-pay.
  • $300 every 5 years based on date of first paid claim.

Medical Items and Services: 20% co-pay (excluding Gender Affirmation).

  • Gender affirmation (diagnosis of gender dysphoria from a physician (M.D.) or nurse practitioner is required): Reasonable and customary charges, limited to $10,000 lifetime.
  • Footwear:
    • Custom made boots or shoes: Reasonable and customary charges.
    • Custom made foot orthotics: $300 per calendar year.
  • Bra (mastectomy): Reasonable and customary charges.
  • Compression Stockings: Reasonable and customary charges.
  • Emergency Transportation: 40% co-pay. Reasonable and customary charges.

Private Duty Nursing in the Home

  • 20% co-pay.
  • $10,000 per benefit year.

Professional Services

  • Chiropractor, Chiropodist or Podiatrist, Naturopath, Speech Therapist, Osteopath 20% co-pay. $350 per type of practitioner every 16 months based on date of first paid claim.
  • Psychologist, Social Worker/Counsellor, Master of Social Work and Psychotherapist: 20% co-pay. $450 per type of practitioner every 16 months based on date of first paid claim.
  • Registered Massage Therapist (Rx required): 20% co-pay. $350 every 16 months based on date of first paid claim.
  • Physiotherapist: 20% co-pay. $350 every 16 months based on date of first paid claim.
  • Holistic Nutritional Consultant: 20% co-pay. Included in the overall combined maximum of $450 per benefit year for Psychologist, Social Worker/Counsellor, Master of Social Work, and Psychotherapist.

Accidental Dental

  • 20% co-pay.
  • Reasonable and customary charges.

Vision

  • Prescription eye glasses or contact lenses, or medically necessary contact lenses: No co-pay. $200every 24 consecutive months based on date of first paid claim.
  • Optometric eye exams: No co-pay. $100 for one eye exam every 2 years based on date of first paid claim.


TRAVEL BENEFIT PLAN

Maximum Number of Days per Trip

  • 180 days.

Maximum

  • $5,000,000 per covered person per benefit year.


DENTAL BENEFIT PLAN

Fee Guide

  • The current Provincial Dental Association Fee Guide for General Practitioners in the province where services are rendered.

Maximum

  • $900 per covered person every 16 months based on date of first paid claim for all eligible dental services combined.

Basic Services

  • 20% co-pay.

Comprehensive Basic Services

  • 20% co-pay.

Major Services

  • 20% co-pay.
