Here’s what you need to know about your GSC student health and dental plan…

Opt-Out Info

Have alternate equivalent coverage and want to opt-out of your student health and dental plan? Requests can be made for a limited time only. Certain restrictions may apply - refer to the LUSU health & dental plan opt-out policy for more information LUSU health & dental plan opt-out policy.  Click the link below for more information.

Opt-In Info

Are you a student who is not eligible to be automatically charged for the plan on your tuition?  Want to add a spouse or dependent child(ren) to your student health and dental plan? Contact your student union or click the link below.

In-Active Period

You may be in an in-active period each year while GSC collects and updates your enrolment information. Don’t worry. You can still submit paper claims for health or dental services. We will process your claims on file once your information is updated.

Once the enrolment is complete and the in-active period ends, you can sign up for GSC everywhere. Through GSC everywhere, you can:

  • Submit claims electronically
  • Sign up for direct deposit (to get paid faster!)
  • Read your full benefits booklet
  • Search for a provider near you
  • Connect to the Change4Life® health portal
  • Search drugs by DIN to see if coverage eligibility
  • And much more!

You can even submit claims right from your mobile device. Just download the GSC everywhere app. Could it get any easier?

You’ll need your GSC ID number to sign up for GSC everywhere online and in the app after the in-active period. Remember, your GSC ID number is your three-letter code school code, your student number and “-00” (example: LSU111222333-00).

Here's a Look at Some of What Your Plan Covers

Your student health and dental plan ensures you can take care of your health and wellbeing during your post-secondary studies by offering a wide range of benefits. Take a look the Schedule of Benefits for the details.

Schedule of Benefits – effective September 1, 2023

HEALTH BENEFIT PLAN

Prescription Drugs

  • Prescription drugs eligible for purchase through PocketPills Pharmacy  (eg. Vaccines are not available for purchase through PocketPills): 10% copay.
  • Prescription drugs purchased at any other pharmacy including generic and brand name single source drugs: 20% copay.
  • Brand name drugs:  50% copay.
  • Biologics:  $1,000 maximum per benefit year.
  • Hepatitis C:  $1,500 maximum per benefit year.
  • All other eligibility Prescription Drugs:  $2,000 maximum per benefit year.

Extended Health Care

  • $7,500 combined maximum per benefit year, including Medical Items, Paramedical Services, Hearing Care and Vision (excluding Gender Affirmation)

Medical Items and Services

  • Gender affirmation (diagnosis of gender dysphoria from a physician (M.D.) or nurse practitioner is required):  Reasonable and customary charges, limited to $10,000 lifetime.
  • Footwear:  Custom made boots or shoes and/or Custom made foot orthotics: $300 maximum per benefit year combined.
  • Bra (mastectomy):  2 per benefit year, limited to $200 per claim
  • Sitz bath (Physician (M.D.) or nurse practitioner recommendation required):  Once every 5 years.
  • Ostomy supplies:  $500 per benefit year
  • Trapeze, TENS machine, Wheelchair repairs, CPAP, BIPAP, APAP:  $250 per lifetime combined

Hearing Care

  • $500 every 60 months.

Vision

  • prescription eye glasses or contact lenses:  $150 every 24 months
       

Emergency Transportation

  • Reasonable and customary charges.

Professional Services

  • Chiropractor, Chiropodist or Podiatrist, Registered Massage*, Physiotherapist*, Osteopath, Speech Therapist, Acupuncturist:  $300 per benefit year per practitioner (* Physician (M.D.) or nurse practitioner recommendation required).
  • Psychologist MindBeacon Therapist Guided Program, Social Worker/Counsellor, Master of Social Work or Psychotherapist:  $500 per benefit year combined maximum, including $300 per benefit year for MindBeacon Therapist Guided Program
  • Holistic Nutritional Consultant:  Included in the overall combined maximum of $500 per benefit year for Psychologist, MindBeacon Therapist Guided Program, Social Worker/Counsellor, Master of Social Work or Psychotherapist

Accidental Dental

  • $2,000 per incident.

Vision

  • Prescription eye glasses or contact lenses: $150 every 2 years.
  • Optometric eye exams: $65 for one eye exam every 2 years.

Tutorial Benefit

  • Private tutorial service of a qualified teacher up to $20 per hour, up to $2,000 per disability or medical event. You must be confined to home or hospital for a minimum of 40 consecutive days to qualify.
  • Your dependents are not eligible for this benefit.
  • Physician (M.D.) or nurse practitioner recommendation required).


TRAVEL BENEFIT PLAN

Trip Duration

  • 120 days per trip.

Maximum

  • $5,000,000 per covered person per benefit year.


DENTAL BENEFIT PLAN

Fee Guide

  • The current Provincial Dental Association Fee Guide for General Practitioners in the province where services are rendered.

Dental Maximum

  • $600 per benefit year (Basic Services, Comprehensive Basic Services and Major Services combined).
  • Basic Services (including periodontal scaling and Bruxism appliance and Maintenance):  20% co-pay.
  • Basic oral surgery and Comprehensive Basic Services:  50% co-pay.
  • Major Services:  90% co-pay.

ADDITIONAL PROGRAMS/SERVICES
As a GSC plan member you have access to these programs/services.

The MindBeacon Therapist Guided Program™

  • As a GSC plan member, you have access to guided digital therapy through MindBeacon.  Offered to you and your dependents (age 16 and over), at no out-of-pocket cost to you, the MindBeacon Therapist Guided Program is an effective, easy-to-access way to receive personalized therapy guided by a mental health professional. It’s a fully digital program, so with no face-to-face appointments to schedule and get to, your therapy happens anywhere and anytime that’s comfortable for you. If the MindBeacon Therapist Guided Program is a good fit for you, you can access the program anytime via the web or app using your computer or mobile device.  Refer to the Summary of Benefits in your Benefit Plan Booklet for information about any co-pays, deductibles, and maximums that may apply to this program.

PocketPills

  • You and your eligible dependents have access to PocketPills – Canada’s leading digital pharmacy. With PocketPills as your pharmacy, you will enjoy free delivery of your pre-sorted prescription medications and vitamins. Easy-to-open PocketPacks help you remember to take the right medication at the right time. PocketPacks are convenient to bring with you wherever you go. Refer to the Summary of Benefits in your Benefit Plan Booklet for information about any co-pays, deductibles, and maximums that may apply to this program.

Tranquility by Inkblot

  • Tranquility by Inkblot is a digital platform that uses internet-based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (iCBT) to help plan members and their eligible dependents (age 15+) with mild to moderate anxiety and/or depression take control of their mental health. It includes interactive learning modules, tools, and optional coaching to help develop positive coping strategies and reduce life-disrupting symptoms.
    The program is an effective and easy-to-use anxiety and depression management tool, available to GSC plan members and their eligible dependents (age 15+) at a discounted rate and can be accessed on most phones, tablets, and computers.  Access Tranquility by Inkblot at www.tranquility.app/gsc. Choose from a self-guided program ($75 plus applicable taxes) or a coach-assisted program ($325 plus applicable taxes)*. The programs are reimbursed subject to existing limitations (co-pays, deductibles, and/or maximums) found in the mental health Paramedical Practitioners section of the Summary of Benefits in your Benefit Plan Booklet.

*Tranquility by Inkblot is currently available for GSC plan members residing in Canada.
