FAQs
How does this program work?
Because your organization is an ATB grant recipient, you and your colleagues can access mental health support and services at no cost to help support your crucial work to advance social change in Alberta. Select organizations may also be added at the discretion of ATB and/or GreenShield.
These services include virtual therapy, Digital Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and other tailored mental health support. They are all available through GreenShield+, an easy-to-use app that will be your single destination for mental health support.
Who is eligible to participate in this program?
The program is open to all employees of eligible social sector agencies operating in Alberta.At this time, participation is limited to paid staff (full-time, part-time, or contractors) and does not extend to volunteers.
Please note that the following organization categories are not eligible for this program:
- Educational institutions
- For-profit organizations
- Fundraising foundations (including health/hospital foundations and community foundations)
- Municipalities
- Political organization
What services are provided?
The program offers mental health support through GreenShield, including:
- GreenShield: Access to virtual therapy from qualified mental health professionals through secure online platforms.
- Interactive modules and tools using Digital Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to help individuals manage anxiety and depression and achieve wellness goals.
- Leader and employee webinars: Access to online training in me
Are there any limits on the services?
Each employee has access to 10 hours annually of free virtual therapy (through GS Health Counseling):
- 10 hours of free virtual therapy from January 1, 2026-December 31, 2026
- 10 hours of free virtual therapy from January 1, 2027-December 31, 2027
The additional services provided through the program are available with unlimited access.
How long will the program last?
ATB and GreenShield are committed to supporting the well-being of Albertans working in the social sector. Current funding is allocated to December 31, 2027, and we will reassess the program's future funding and continuation at that time.
How can I be sure my therapist is a good fit for me?
GreenShield’s personalized therapist matching tool prioritizes intersectionality, acknowledging the various factors influencing an individual’s well-being. With 50+ selection options, such as culture, race/ethnicity, language, gender, sexuality, and religion, you can connect with a registered therapist who understands and relates to your identity and lived experiences.
You can book a free 15-minute consultation and get to know the therapist. If you don’t feel like they’re the right fit, you can arrange another consultation with a different therapist to ensure they are the right fit for your mental health journey.
I don't feel ready for virtual therapy. Is there a way to get started on my own?
Through ATB and GreenShield’s partnership, you also have access to Digital Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
Digital CBT
Designed primarily for individuals experiencing mild to moderate symptoms of anxiety and depression, this online program puts you in the driver’s seat of your mental health and well-being. Interactive learning modules, tools, and coaching help you develop positive coping strategies and reduce life-disrupting symptoms without waiting. Regular in-app reminders and guided coaching ensure you stay motivated to reach your wellness goals.
