Green Shield partners with Dexcom and The Health Depot to offer exclusive digital diabetes care program

We are pleased to announce a partnership with Dexcom, Inc. and The Health Depot to offer plan members a comprehensive digital diabetes care program that will include convenient and affordable access to Dexcom G6 real-time continuous glucose monitoring (rtCGM) products, combined with virtual diabetes coaching support.

Green Shield plan members eligible for Dexcom G6 rtCGM coverage who register for the new program will have exclusive access to convenient and coordinated diabetes management support services including: 

• Preferred pricing – Plan members will have access to preferred pricing for Dexcom G6 supplies, helping them get more out of their annual benefit dollars.
• Direct billing – Claims for Dexcom supplies will be submitted directly to Green Shield for payment on the plan member’s behalf.
• Automated product shipments – The Health Depot team will send Dexcom G6 supplies right to the plan member’s door every three months.
• Co-payment assistance – Plan members’ applicable out-of-pocket pharmacy costs for Dexcom G6 supplies will be significantly reduced or even eliminated.
• No-cost receiver – For plan members using Dexcom G6 who don’t have a compatible smart device, one free receiver will be provided upon request.
• Individualized diabetes management support – Leveraging glucose data insights from the Dexcom Clarity application, The Health Depot team of clinical pharmacists will help plan members who opt in to stay on top of their glucose management.
• Clinical consultation with a pharmacist – Plan members using Dexcom G6 will have access to a complimentary 30-minute clinical consultation by phone or video, from the privacy and comfort of their home.

As a reminder, Green Shield plan members managing their diabetes with rapid-acting, short-acting, or intermediate-acting insulin – alone or as pre-mixture – or who require an insulin pump, are eligible for automated coverage approval of Dexcom G6 supplies at pharmacies, including The Health Depot. In addition, direct claim submission at the pharmacy for glucose monitoring systems was enabled in late fall 2021.

Plan members currently purchasing their supplies through the Dexcom online store will be sent targeted communications over the coming weeks, which include details about the new digital diabetes care program.
