DIRECTOR, CORPORATE ACCOUNTING AND CONTROL
Location – Windsor, Ontario or Toronto, Ontario

ACCOUNTABILITIES OF THIS ROLE INCLUDE:
- Take personal responsibility for the preparation and accuracy of monthly and quarterly reports for the senior leadership team and Audit Committee of the Board.
- Work closely with the CFO to prepare audit committee packages and attend all audit committee meetings.
- Identify strategic opportunities to improve the operating performance and make recommendations to senior management.
- Direct the preparation and delivery of timely and accurate monthly, quarter-end and year-end financial statements and related regulatory filings.
- Coordinate the external audit of the financial statements and notes.
- Oversee the treasury function to ensure effective cash management.
- Work closely with the CFO to review and recommend Investment Management strategies.
- Provide accurate and timely investment accounting information and perform appropriate reconciliation and control procedures to safeguard the organizations corporate investments.
- Prepare and review statutory filings and rating agency reporting.
- Manage corporate compliance activities ensuring that all legislative and regulatory requirements are complete; monitor the legislative and regulatory environment on a continuous basis for any changes which may impact the organization.
- For all new ventures, act as the Finance Department expert to ensure all aspects of corporate governance and compliance are considered, implemented and maintained.
- Contribute to the achievement of corporate objectives through the accurate and timely identification and resolution of accounting issues/opportunities.
- Establish, implement and monitor any development of accounting systems, policies & procedures and internal controls.
- Liaise with the planning group to support the annual corporate planning process.
- Lead the team while embracing Green Shield Canada’s Mission, Vision, Values, as well as the Leadership Model.
- Mentor, coach and facilitate professional training and development for the Finance team.
QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES INCLUDE:
- A results-oriented and highly credible individual who likely offers at least 15 years of relevant experience including corporate accounting, reporting and compliance.
- Post-Secondary degree or diploma combined with a CA, CMA or CGA is required.
- Experience developing Board level reports and Audit Committee packages.
- Brings a big-picture perspective with a keen attention to critical detail.
- Innovative thinker and problem solver; – the ability to see how all the pieces fit together and contribute to the achievement of broader organizational objectives; strong business acumen and judgment.
- A proactive self-starter with a record of accomplishment leading, managing and adding value by introducing best practices to enhance the effectiveness of accounting and reporting processes in order for the business to better meet its evolving needs.

- Technical knowledge of pension accounting and/or investment accounting would be an asset.
- Willingness to be based in Windsor is preferred; if not, regular travel between Windsor and Toronto will be required.
