launches Passport to Health
™
in response to rising health care costs
In response to the rising cost of health care, and employer demand to ensure benefit dollars are spent as wisely as possible, Green Shield Canada today announced the launch of Passport to Health™. This portfolio of products, services and tools will enable companies to gain control over their health and dental benefit plan spending, while providing individuals with ways to take responsibility for their own health and adopt healthier lifestyles. Benefit Insight™ is the first product in this new portfolio.
“Benefit Insight™ leverages Green Shield Canada’s robust database to generate insightful, innovative and actionable health benefit intelligence,” explains Mike Brown, director strategic alliances and product development, Green Shield Canada. “This allows organizations to better understand the health of their employees, determine how effectively benefits are being used, and identify how their benefits utilization compares to key variables. It also helps project employee health benefit spending into the future,” concludes Brown.
“As the originator of the first pre-paid drug plan in North America, we are always searching for new ways to deliver unmatched service, while ensuring our customers’ benefit dollars are spent as efficiently as possible,” says Steve Bradie, executive vice president and chief operating officer, Green Shield Canada. “The launch of Passport to Health™ enables us to combine almost 50 years of benefits management expertise, with our highly sophisticated database to help our customers make informed decisions about their business and the health of their employees”.
To ensure a statistically significant sample size, and more importantly, protect the privacy of all plan participants, Benefit Insight™ is only available to companies with at least 700 employees. It is available to our customers at no extra charge, as part of Green Shield Canada’s commitment to provide industry-leading business solutions.
Benefit Insight™ provides seven reports in the following three key areas of analysis: benchmarking, claims pattern recognition, and future benefit planning. These reports include:
- Cost Comparison - Benchmarks claims utilization against the Green Shield Canada database, similar organizations within an industry, or by province.
- Benefit Category Utilization - Flags fluctuations in use of benefits within categories. By helping identify where the problem areas are, improvement strategies can be formulated.
- Benefit Category Utilization Year over Year - Identifies if there’s a variance in cost per subscriber between the current period and the previous reporting period.
- Top Drug Categories - Highlights drug categories where total claims exceed a predetermined value and where the year over year variances exceed a set value.
- Projected Age Band Analysis - Looks into the future, projecting benefit costs for the current workforce in five and ten-year increments based on current benefit spending.
- Medical Condition - Examines claims patters to uncover the potential for the development of serious medical conditions within an organization. Correlates drug utilization to clinical diagnosis parameters.
- Future Benefit Planning - Provides insightful information on industry trends. Suggests alternatives for cost containment and improvement of health outcomes.
